Review: Rebecca Linda Smith "True Love"

Image
Approaching the new album "True Love" by Rebecca Linda Smith is like stepping back in time to the days when the women of country music boldly and expressively mixed country and gospel to form a blessed union of musical bliss that is sorely lacking in most of the music of today. The album begins with the title track "True Love" which showcases Smith's hearty country vocals. The opening lyrics build to a rousing melodic and memorable chorus that fires on all cylinders. However, the album's best track by a mile is the masterpiece duet with country music star Marty Raybon titled "Not Knowing Anymore" which is reminiscent of power ballads from the worlds of country music (Dolly Parton/Kenny Rogers) and contemporary Christian music (Sandi Patty/Larnelle Harris). The combined voices of Smith and Raybon are musical perfection. Smith, whose maiden name is Garcia, joined the military to become a linguist but eventually became a Heavy Vehicle Me...

Review: The Classic Imperials "Still Standing"

Image
In the world of Christian music, there is no group that can match the long and fabled history of the Imperials. The group began with Jake Hess, later performed with Elvis and then successfully morphed into a pioneering force in the burgeoning contemporary Christian music (CCM) scene. After all that, some of the most famous members joined together in 2010 to form The Classic Imperials" with the new album "Still Standing." Indeed, the 11 terrific songs prove that the Classic Imperials are rock solid and standing tall. The album begins with the bold anthem "Live My Life." The passionate vocal performance and instrumentation is a perfect package to reintroduce the Classic Imperials. However, the group really shines on the country track "No More Looking Over My Shoulder," which deserves radio airplay on both country and gospel radio. "Brighter Day" is a modern, upbeat praise and worship song that will manage to surprise both current fans and ...

Review: Collin Raye “Never Going Back”

Image
After a long and successful music career including fifteen number one country chart singles, Collin Raye could certainly afford to retire. But his new album, "Never Going Back," proves that Collin Raye's best days are yet to come. The title track, "Never Going Back," presents Collin Raye's vocals in fine form. On this song, Collin Raye has combined his signature sound with a little Don Henley light rock that suits him well. But the next two songs, "Take Care Of You" and "Don't Tell Me," are sincere and nurturing. They mark a return to the Collin Raye style that is known and loved around the world. The biggest surprise on the album is Collin Raye's beautiful and heartfelt Christian song "The Cross." This track is the best Christian country song since "Three Wooden Crosses" from Randy Travis. The memorable melody, touching story and stellar vocals create a true musical treat. Likewise, the uplifting "The...
